Yee Wen Thai Restaurant @ Kepong

Situated in the outskirts of Kepong, somewhere along the factory area, appears to have one of the best Thai(s) I've tasted in KL itself. I have yet to wander around other places in search of good Thai food. This Thai restaurant is operated by a Thai guy who does not only converse in Thai, but also in Cantonese, Mandarin, and somewhat Hokkien too. Just amazed by the number of lingo the owner could speak. Food itself, speaks wonders.

Tom-Yam Soup

Enriched with spicy flavours and seafood. Those that do not have a high-chili tolerance, I would very much avoid from ordering this. The tomyam soup has a strong pungent kick to it. Great flavours but not a "wow" factor for me.

Thai Style Otak-Otak

It was my first time seeing "Otak-Otak" served in a coconut shell. When I first tried the Otak-Otak, it was a great twist to the usual Malaysian Style Otak-Otak. Was flavoursome but the second time I tried, the Otak-Otak was a little too watery. I guess it lacks of consistency. Would recommend this for first-timers of Coconut Shell Otak Otak.

Steam Squid with Chili & Lime

This has got to be one of the best dishes so far(hands down!). That freshness you get from the steam squid, tucked in with the garlic and lime. And lastly, that sensation kick from the chili. This dish is not to be missed out when dining in Yee Wen. It has done Steam Squid its glory.

Deep Fried Fish with Kerabu Mango

Besides the steam squid that I love, the fish with kerabu mango is another dish that MUST not be missed out when dining here. The freshness of the mango, with the mix of cucumber and onions. Every flavour of this dish blends in so well. & for those who are not as keen in spicy dish, this will do its job. This fish isn't spicy at all , if you were to take a break from all the spiciness of Thai food. :)

Battered Squid

This dish is just a normal battered squid dish. Nothing special about this, thus will not order this again.

Kerabu Mango

As mentioned before about the Deep Fried fish with Kerabu Mango, I couldn't resist ordering just its Kerabu Mango itself. It is sweet and sour at the same time. Just a very delicious dish.

Thai Fish Cake

The Thai Fish Cake here is BIG. No idea how a fish cake can become that big. The fish cake here is quite yums as compared to other Thai restaurants that uses frozen fish cake.

Green Curry Chicken

One thing I would order when dining in a Thai restaurant, is to try out their Green Curry chicken. Although I'm more of a fan for Paneng Curry Chicken. The Green Curry chicken here is edible but I wouldn't say fantastic.

Steam Fish with Lime & Chili

The Squid was a better choice for this style of cooking. For the fish, I would stick to the Kerabu Mango Fish.

Well, the reason why I fancy this place is because it has that homey-thai feeling to it. The dishes are quite flavoursome and the price is pretty reasonable for Thai food. I have visited a few Thai restaurants here in KL and the price is just extraordinary pricey. For instance, a small bowl of tomyam soup could costs RM15 (before tax, etc).

Whereas, here in Yee Wen, there isn't any tax and the portion is pretty big. The same size as when you head into Chinese restaurants. Having ordered about six dishes, the bill came up to about RM160. With that big portion, I would say its pretty reasonable.

OH! Don't forget to order their Coconut (pretty refreshing) :)

Steven's Chicken Chop @ Damansara Uptown

Since young, I have been patronizing the same shop whenever I have the "chicken chop" cravings. It's not in a restaurant, nor in a shop lot, but it's in an open food court situated in Damansara Uptown. I remember those days where a plate of a sinful chicken chop would cost RM6.50 but right now, that same plate of chicken chop costs RM12/RM13. Fred not, it is still a satisfying plate of chicken chop. Besides chicken chop, they do sell grilled chicken, lamb, and beef. All I can say is that if you have not try this out, you MUST. The only down side to it is that : - the environment is filled with mosquito. I wouldn't mind (as the food do come quickly), but to those that mind, perhaps you could pack the food back home. But do bear in mind, if you choose to pack it back home, it may be soggy. Directions to the place :- 1. Head to Damansara Uptown (if you have no idea where that is, popular shops such as Village Park Nasi Lemak, Every Sundae, A Pie Thing, Damansar...

Ekkamai @ Jalan Batai, Damansara Heights

When Thai food is not done right, it would taste bland; When Thai food is done right, your taste would bend. But thankfully for Ekkamai @ Batai, they did Thai food justice! My first experience in Ekkamai was at the Publika branch and it wasn't a pleasant dining experience as I felt the food lacks the flavours and one of the soup had a bad smell to it (Tom Kha Salmon Belly, to be exact). At this point, I told myself to not walk into the one in Publika anymore, and give the one at Batai a chance. Stumbled upon the branch at Batai, and why not? Did not regret it, food was delightful, ambiance was just perfect for a group dining, or even a romantic couple dining experience. Only down-side is the parking at Batai (a 4 hours catching up with friends, could costs you about RM15 just for the parking). Enough said, food pics! Sharing Platter ✭✭✭✰✰  The sharing platter is a good combination of several starters. Do note that this would just be enough for 2-3 person. The...

Oriental Cravings @ One Utama

I always have this mindset that restaurants in shopping malls are normally not as great, but that mindset of mine somehow drifted and changed when I took the guts to try out Oriental Cravings. Obviously, I went in the restaurant with not much expectation but just a restaurant to fill my empty tummy. I decided to try this place and to my surprise, the food is actually quite tasty. I knew I was skeptical about the place because you're paying a whole lot more for a bowl of curry noodles as compared to the ones you get at hawker centre. To my belief, I thought "how great can a bowl of curry noodles/laksa be, when you are paying about RM20 instead of RM6?". But, enough with all the chitty-chats, above all, I had a decent and satisfying meal. Please do note that the curry laksa is non-halal as it consists pieces of roasted pork. To me, it was a decent bowl of laksa, better than most of the "shopping mall" outlets laksa. However, what blew me away was the Fried Yam ...
